TRAINING

APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING

What is apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship is a combination  of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction in a skilled craft or trade found in Construction and Non-Construction Industries.  Apprentices are paid a regular salary during their training period and can expect regular salary increases during the entire training period.

Apprentices work under a skilled journeyperson to learn a particular skill or trade.  At least 155 hours of related classroom instruction per year are also included in the training program.

Apprenticeship training lasts from one to six years depending on the trade.  The average training period is three to four years.  When an apprenticeship program is completed, apprentices receive a certificage of completion by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.   Qualified former military service members may also receive V.A Education benefits while in training.
